Taking out Sanitas from anywhere in Spain: how we work remotely

Our office is in Majadahonda, but most of the policies we manage are taken out without anyone setting foot in it: from Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, the Canary Islands or, in the case of visas, from the client's home country before they travel. The insurance is the same, the price is the official Sanitas price (with no markup for our advice) and the medical network covers the whole of Spain. The only thing that changes is the channel: phone, WhatsApp, email or video call, at whatever time suits you. Here we explain how the process works, how long it takes and what you need to have to hand.

Common questions

Direct answers, the same we give at the office.

Do you really serve people outside Madrid, or only those who can come to the office?

We serve the whole of Spain, and most of our clients have never been to the office. The usual route is this: you work out your price on the website, ask us to call you or send us a WhatsApp message, and we get in touch at the time you choose, by phone, WhatsApp, email or video call, whichever you prefer, with your quote already prepared. Office hours are Monday to Thursday from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 18:00, and Fridays from 9:00 to 15:00, but you can send us a WhatsApp message whenever you like and we will reply by the next working day at the latest.

Does the price change depending on the province I sign up from?

Sanitas sets its official prices by zone, according to the postcode where the insured person lives, so the premium can vary from one province to another. But it is exactly the same whether you take it out with us, at another office or on the Sanitas website: the advice of an exclusive agent's office adds no surcharge or commission. The calculator on this website already prices with your postcode, whichever it is, and gives you the real premium for your zone in under a minute.

How does remote sign-up work, and what documents do I need?

Three documents, all of them official Sanitas forms you can download from the website. First, the insurance application, with the details of everyone being insured and the health questionnaire, signed on every page; if you have a Spanish bank account with an IBAN, this document is all you need. Second, if you would rather pay by card or have no Spanish IBAN, the card payment form. And third, a legible copy or photo of the DNI, NIE or passport of each insured person (plus the enrollment or admission letter if it is student insurance). You send them to us by email or WhatsApp, we confirm the final price and, if everything is in order, we process the sign-up in under 12 hours, guaranteed. If the questionnaire includes a health declaration or you pay by bank transfer, the review can take up to 48 hours.

If I live far from Madrid, which doctors and hospitals will I have?

The Sanitas medical network is national: more than 59,000 professionals and more than 4,100 own and partner centres across Spain, which you can look up by postcode before signing up (we go through it with you). The own university hospitals are in Madrid, La Moraleja, La Zarzuela, Virgen del Mar and the 100% digital hospital in Valdebebas, and in Barcelona, CIMA; in the rest of the country you use the partner network in your area. And every plan includes 24-hour medical video consultations through Blua, which does not depend on where you live.

I am outside Spain and need insurance for my visa. Can I take it out from my own country?

Yes, and it is one of the things we do most often. The policies for visas and the NIE, Sanitas Residents and International Students, are taken out entirely remotely, with card payment if you do not have a Spanish bank account yet, and the official certificate for the consulate or the immigration office (Extranjería) is issued in under 24 hours, guaranteed. We look after you in eight languages (Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese), the same eight the website is available in. By the time you land in Spain you will already have your card in the Mi Sanitas app and your adviser on the other end of WhatsApp.

And after I sign up? Will I be dealing with a call centre?

No: the same office that signed you up keeps looking after you. Changing plans, adding a child or a partner, questions about a copay or a waiting period, authorization for a test, the certificate to renew your NIE… all of that is handled with your adviser on WhatsApp or by phone, wherever you live. That is the practical difference between signing up with an exclusive agent's office and doing it purely online: the price is the same, but afterwards there is someone with a name who knows your policy.
