Sanitas in Barcelona and Catalonia: Where You Are Treated

Short answer: in Catalonia Sanitas has its own hospital, Hospital Sanitas CIMA in Barcelona, with 24-hour emergencies. It also has its own medical centres in Barcelona, Sabadell, Sant Cugat and Tarragona and three Centros de Rehabilitación Avanzada (advanced rehabilitation centres). For everything else it works with partner hospitals and clinics in all four provinces. The network has grown fast: Provença opened in February 2025 and Sant Cugat in September 2026. Sabadell arrived in the same round of openings. Here you have each centre with its address and opening hours, what's new at CIMA and the 2027 cover most closely linked to it. We also explain what is worth knowing if you are arriving from another country and how to take it out remotely with Oficina Sanitas Majadahonda (an exclusive Sanitas agency).

Sanitas in Catalonia, centre by centre

We checked the address and opening hours of each own centre on Sanitas's websites on 22 October 2026. What's new at CIMA and the partner hospitals and centres come from Sanitas's information for its 2027 renewal campaign (September 2026). The medical directory changes during the year: before you go, confirm it in the Mi Sanitas app or with us.

Hospital Sanitas CIMA and the one arriving in 2028

It's two in the morning and the stomach ache won't go away. In Barcelona, the door to knock on with Sanitas is Hospital Sanitas CIMA (Paseo de Manuel Girona 33), with 24-hour emergencies. It is one of Sanitas's five own hospitals and the only one outside Madrid. It holds Joint Commission International accreditation. From the Mi Sanitas app you can see the emergency waiting time at Sanitas's own hospitals in real time. You can also book appointments and check in without phoning.

For an MRI or a CT scan you also have CIMA's Centro de Diagnóstico Eixample (Calle Balmes 67). And Sanitas is preparing a second hospital in the city: Hospital Marina, in the 22@ district, with opening planned for 2028. For people living in Poblenou it will change the map. Today it is a project, so the sensible thing is to choose your insurance for what is already open.

What has changed at CIMA: heart, pain and neurology

Sanitas has been renewing CIMA from the inside for some time, and where it shows most is in cardiology. It has added minimally invasive haemodynamic procedures such as TAVI or closure of a patent foramen ovale, as well as cryoablation. It has created a heart failure unit and a syncope unit with tilt-table testing to investigate fainting with no clear cause. There is also a new Lipid Unit and a Pain Unit with its own care pathway. The epilepsy unit has a high-definition video electroencephalogram.

It adds paediatric endoscopy and more hepatology and pancreas staff. There are new multidisciplinary units in oncology and neurology, more robotic surgery in thoracic surgery and a travel medicine and sexually transmitted infections unit. The MRI uses artificial intelligence to improve the patient experience. An important nuance: a hospital having a technique does not mean your policy covers it in every case. That is set by the general terms and conditions of your plan. The current Sanitas Más Salud general terms and conditions, for example, exclude robotic surgery. For 2027 Sanitas adds multiport robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancer procedures, with its own conditions. You only have it if it appears in the latest version of your policy's terms and conditions. It is the first thing we check with you when you are offered a procedure.

TAVI in 2027: what the policy covers and what you pay

Say your father has severe aortic stenosis and the cardiologist advises against open-heart surgery because the surgical risk is high. TAVI replaces the aortic valve through a catheter. The current Sanitas Más Salud general terms and conditions exclude percutaneous techniques to replace or repair heart valves. For 2027 Sanitas adds TAVI precisely for that profile: severe aortic stenosis where surgery is contraindicated because of its high surgical risk.

There are two conditions worth knowing from the start. The insured person pays for the valve prosthesis: the technique is covered and the valve is at your expense. And you only have it if it appears in the latest version of your policy's terms and conditions, within its limits and exclusions, like all the new 2027 cover. You can check it in Mi Sanitas or ask us and we will point you to the clause. We go over the rest of the new features for 2027 in our guide to the new cover.

Sanitas's own centres in Barcelona city, almost all in the Eixample

Day-to-day care is concentrated in the Eixample. Centro Médico Balmes occupies two premises on Calle Balmes. The one at number 111 is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00. The one at 127 opens only on weekdays, from 9:00 to 21:00. Between them they have allergy, cardiology, dermatology, gynaecology, ophthalmology, ENT and other specialties. Further up, at Balmes 243, Centro Médico Robresa has a walk-in family doctor Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00 and walk-in laboratory tests in the mornings.

On Calle Provença there are two centres. Centro Médico Boreal (Provença 360) is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 21:00. Centro Médico Provença (Provença 382-386) is the newest in the city: it opened in February 2025 with 2,000 square metres. It has day surgery, an endoscopy suite, MRI, a mammography unit, ultrasound and conventional radiology. It is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00. Laboratory tests are done without an appointment on weekday mornings.

Provença has a Centro de Rehabilitación Avanzada inside. There is another one at Calle Francesc Carbonell 25 with physiotherapy and rehabilitation, pregnancy and postpartum care, podiatry and biomechanics, and psychology. It is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 21:00. For physiotherapy to be covered by the policy, the general terms and conditions have to be met. In Sanitas Más Salud it is outpatient physiotherapy for musculoskeletal injuries that are not a chronic or degenerative process. It is prescribed in writing by a doctor in the directory. How many sessions your policy covers and what authorisation you need, we confirm with your general terms and conditions in front of us before the first session.

Outside Barcelona: the Vallès and Tarragona

If you live in the Vallès you no longer need to go into Barcelona for an MRI. Centro Médico Sabadell (Avenida de Francesc Macià 20) arrived in Sanitas's 2025 and 2026 openings. It has 1,900 square metres, 13 consulting rooms and more than 20 medical and surgical specialties. It has a day-surgery operating theatre and MRI, mammography with tomosynthesis, ultrasound and conventional radiology. It also has its own Centro de Rehabilitación Avanzada. It is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00.

The newest is Centro Médico Sant Cugat (Rambla del Celler 41-43), opened in September 2026. It is open Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 20:30 and does walk-in laboratory tests from 7:00 to 14:00. In Tarragona, Centro Médico Imperial Tarraco (Avenida de Roma 3-5) is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 21:00. It has an operating theatre, MRI, ultrasound and radiology. Its specialties include paediatrics, cardiology and general surgery. In Girona and Lleida the own network has no medical centre today: day-to-day care goes through the partner directory in the next section and through the digital side of the policy.

Partner hospitals and clinics in the four provinces

For everything the own network doesn't do there is the partner network. Sanitas's September 2026 information lists, in Barcelona city, Clínica Mi Tres Torres, Clínica Corachán, Creu Blanca, Clínica Sagrada Família, the HM Nou Delfos, HM Nens and HM Sant Jordi hospitals, Clínica Nuestra Señora del Remei, Hospital Quirónsalud El Pilar, Centro Médico Quirónsalud Teknon, Hospital Universitari Quirónsalud Dexeus and Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona. Very close by is Hospital Quirónsalud Badalona. In the rest of the province the list includes Aptima Centre Clínic, Althaia, Salut i Més Centre Mèdic Terrassa, Hospital Quirónsalud del Vallès, Hospital General de Catalunya and Hospital Creu Blanca Maresme.

In Girona there are Clínica Girona, Clínica Bofill, Causse Clínic (Clínica Onyar) and Clínica Salus. In Lleida you have Clínica Mi NovAliança, Hospital Vithas Montserrat and Hospital HLA Perpetuo Socorro. In Tarragona the list includes Hospital Viamed Monegal, Policlínica Comarcal del Vendrell, Clínica Terres de l'Ebre, Centre MQ Reus and Clínica Alomar. The full directory, doctor by doctor, is in the Mi Sanitas app. If you prefer, give us your postcode and we will send you the one for your area on WhatsApp.

Emergencies at home: a doctor and an ambulance you can follow on your phone

Barcelona is one of the cities where Sanitas coordinates emergency doctors and ambulances at home. For many of those call-outs you can follow in Mi Sanitas where the doctor or ambulance sent to you is and when it is expected to arrive. Behind it there is a team of doctors, paediatricians and nurses who handle emergencies and consultations by phone and video consultation. If needed, they leave your prescription or test request ready. With a child with a fever on a Sunday night, knowing how long the doctor will take makes the wait very different.

If you are arriving in Barcelona from another country

Many people settle in Barcelona to work, study or live on their own income, and ask us whether the insurance is valid for their residence. That is what Sanitas Residents is for, with specialists, tests, hospitalisation and dental cover with more than 40 services included. It uses the same network as CIMA and the centres in this article. It covers emergencies abroad up to 12,000 euros per person per year during the first 90 days of each trip. Before receiving care you must ask Sanitas for authorisation, except in a life-threatening emergency. According to its product sheet it meets the requirements for processing your residence visa.

If you are still applying for your visa, there is Sanitas Residents Visado. It has no waiting periods: cover starts on day one. It is paid every six months or annually. Sanitas issues the certificate for the consulate or the immigration office (Extranjería) in under 24 hours, guaranteed (up to 48 hours if there are pre-existing conditions or you pay by bank transfer). CIMA has a service for international patients, and its travel medicine unit is a good consultation before a long trip. Sign-up is done entirely remotely. Before you sign up we check with you that the product fits your application.

Signing up from Catalonia with the Majadahonda office

The office is in Majadahonda and many of our clients have never set foot in it. The policy is from Sanitas and the medical directory covers the whole of Spain: according to Sanitas's September 2026 information, its network has more than 59,000 professionals and 261 hospitals. You work out your price with your postcode and message us on WhatsApp at +34 655 02 69 85 (every day) or call us on +34 919 93 17 90 during office hours. You can also write to us at ventas@protegesalud.com or go through it with us by video call. With complete paperwork, sign-up usually takes under 12 hours and sometimes happens within the hour. The policy always starts on the 1st of a month.

What changes is what comes afterwards. Authorising an MRI at Provença, adding the baby just born at CIMA or requesting the certificate to renew your residence card is handled by the same person who set up your policy. We look after you in eight languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese. If you come from another insurer that operates in Spain, we ask Sanitas on your behalf to waive the waiting periods, which the company assesses case by case (Sanitas Residents does not accept this transfer). The price starts from the Sanitas rate and with us you never pay more. On full health insurance plans (with hospitalisation) we also apply the best price guaranteed. The same people always look after you on WhatsApp and by phone. We are not the ones saying it: 430 client reviews on Google say it, with a 5.0 rating.

Address and opening hours of Sanitas's own centres in Catalonia checked on the websites of Sanitas and of Hospital Sanitas CIMA on 22 October 2026. Opening dates and facilities of Provença, Sabadell and Sant Cugat according to Sanitas's information. What's new at CIMA, the own network, the partner hospitals and centres and TAVI come from Sanitas's information for its 2027 renewal campaign (September 2026) and may change. Hospital Marina is a project with opening planned for 2028. The 2027 cover only applies if it appears in the latest version of your policy's terms and conditions, within its limits and exclusions. Before you go, confirm it in the Mi Sanitas app or with us. What your policy covers is what its general terms and conditions say. Oficina Sanitas Majadahonda is an exclusive agency of Sanitas, S.A. de Seguros: ANYO HEALTH SL, DGSFP code C0320B67816207. Sanitas is a registered trademark of Sanitas, S.A. de Seguros.

Common questions

Direct answers, the same we give at the office.

Which policy do I need to be admitted to CIMA?

One with hospitalisation. Sanitas Más Salud in its three plans, Más Salud Familias and Sanitas Residents have it, among others. Sanitas Accede and Sanitas Avanza do not include hospital admission. With them you use consultations, tests and emergencies. Avanza also adds more than 400 surgical procedures without admission. If you need to stay overnight in hospital, it is not covered. If you are thinking of moving up the range, we explain the conditions of the change beforehand.

I want to give birth at CIMA. What should I check in the policy?

That it includes hospitalisation and that the waiting period is over. In Sanitas Más Salud, childbirth or a caesarean section has an 8-month waiting period from sign-up, except for premature birth (before 37 weeks). Then comes adding the baby. If Sanitas covers the birth, the newborn joins the policy with full rights from birth. You must report it within the following 30 calendar days with an insurance application that we prepare with you.

Do I need a referral for a specialist or for an MRI?

For a specialist, usually not. In Sanitas Más Salud you go directly to the specialists, the family doctor and the paediatrician in the medical directory, except for the specialties indicated in the doctors' guide. Tests and treatments need a written prescription from a doctor in the Sanitas directory. Operations and admissions also need the company's prior authorisation. Send us the referral on WhatsApp and we process it.

How much does Sanitas cost in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida or Tarragona?

It depends on the age of each insured person, the plan, the number of people and the area. Sanitas has one set of prices for the province of Barcelona and another shared by Girona, Lleida and Tarragona. That's why we don't give a starting figure that later looks nothing like yours. In our calculator you enter your postcode and the age of each insured person and you see your price in a minute. We confirm the final price when we prepare your application.

Do I pay more for taking out Sanitas with an office in Majadahonda?

No. The price starts from the Sanitas rate and with us you never pay more. On full health insurance plans (with hospitalisation) we also apply the best price guaranteed. The policy and access to CIMA are the same. What you gain is someone with a name for everything that comes afterwards: authorisations, adding babies, certificates or changes of plan. The same people always look after you on WhatsApp and by phone.

I live in Girona or Lleida, with no own centre nearby. Is Sanitas worth it for me?

It depends on what you have close at hand, and that is checked before signing up. Day-to-day care goes through the partner hospitals and clinics in your province. If a covered service doesn't exist in your town, the Sanitas Más Salud general terms and conditions provide that it is given in the province where it can be done, at your choice. For everything else you have Blua's video consultation, and for the big things CIMA. Send us your postcode and we will tell you what you would have nearby.
