Sanitas in the Balearic Islands: Where You Are Treated in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza

Short answer: since November 2025 Sanitas has had its own medical centre in Palma in the Balearic Islands, a hundred metres from Plaza de España. It brings together specialists, advanced rehabilitation and a dentist in the same building. For hospital stays and operations it works with a partner network in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, with centres such as Juaneda, Miramar, Quirónsalud or Hospital de Llevant. At three centres in Mallorca you also have priority appointments in all specialties. For the dentist there are Sanitas clinics in Palma and Ibiza. Here it all is, island by island. We also explain what is worth knowing if you are a foreign resident and how to take it out remotely with Oficina Sanitas Majadahonda (an exclusive Sanitas agency).

Sanitas on the islands: from Palma to Formentera

We checked the address and opening hours of the Palma medical centre and of the dental clinics on Sanitas's websites on 18 October 2026. The partner hospitals and centres and the priority appointment agreements come from Sanitas's information for its 2027 renewal campaign (September 2026). The medical directory changes during the year: before you go, confirm it in the Mi Sanitas app or with us.

Palma now has its own Sanitas medical centre

Until a year ago, a Sanitas policyholder in Palma did all their medical life in the partner network: the family doctor at one clinic, the ultrasound at another and the physiotherapist at a third. Since November 2025 they have another option right in the centre. Centro Médico Sanitas Palma is about a hundred metres from Plaza de España (Avenida del Gran i General Consell 6). It is Sanitas's first own centre in the Balearic Islands. It has 1,586 square metres and eleven consulting rooms. It adds dedicated rooms for cardiology, ophthalmology and ENT (ear, nose and throat). For imaging it has conventional radiology, a mammography unit and ultrasound. It also has a nursing area.

Its website lists 25 specialties and services for adults and children. They include family medicine, paediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics, dermatology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, urology and allergy. There are also laboratory tests and walk-in care for adults (atención continuada). It is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 21:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00. Appointments are booked by chat, from the Mi Sanitas app or on the centre's phone line (971 195 799). The centre is open to everyone, whether or not they have Sanitas insurance. On the day you sign up we show you how to book from the app, so that your first appointment doesn't start with a search.

Advanced rehabilitation and the dentist under one roof

Think of someone who twists an ankle walking down to a cove: orthopaedic specialist, X-ray and then a few weeks of physiotherapy. In Palma all three fit in the same building. The centre includes a Centro de Rehabilitación Avanzada (advanced rehabilitation centre) with physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology and rehabilitation medicine. It is the same format Sanitas has in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Bilbao. How many physiotherapy sessions your policy covers, and with what copay or limit, depends on the plan. We confirm it with your general terms and conditions in front of us before the first session.

The building also has a dentistry and oral surgery unit with two treatment rooms. It is not the only Sanitas dental practice on the islands. Palma has three more clinics: Aragó (Calle de Aragó 40), Barón de Pinopar (Calle Barón de Pinopar 9) and Camino de la Vileta (Camino de la Vileta 7A). Ibiza has one more on Avenida Ignasi Wallis 41-43. All of them are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 21:00, and Barón de Pinopar also on Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00. Sanitas Más Salud comes with dental cover as standard, and Dental Milenium or Dental Premium are added as a supplement. We tell you which one is worth it for what you are going to use, and also if neither is.

Mallorca beyond the own centre: partner hospitals and priority appointments

For everything the own centre doesn't do there is the partner network. In Mallorca it brings together centres that are very well known on the island. Sanitas's September 2026 information lists Clínica Juaneda, Policlínica Miramar, Hospital Clínic Balear, the Quirónsalud Palmaplanas and Quirónsalud Rotger clinics, the Quirónsalud medical centres and the Instituto Balear Oftalmológico. Outside Palma, the north has Hospital Juaneda Muro and the interior the Centro de Especialidades Médicas Juaneda in Inca. In the east there is Hospital de Llevant, in Porto Cristo. People living in Alcúdia, Inca or Manacor don't have to cross the island to see a specialist.

What you notice most day to day are Sanitas's priority agreements with three of those centres. At Policlínica Miramar, Clínica Juaneda and Hospital Juaneda Muro, policyholders have priority appointments in all specialties. You appreciate that in July, with the island full. If you are admitted there are extras for whoever is with you. At Hospital de Llevant you get a welcome, a Sanitas room subject to availability, wifi and full board for the companion. At the Quirónsalud clinics the companion gets breakfast and dinner. These are Sanitas's conditions with each centre and they are reviewed over time. Say you are with Sanitas when you book, and if anything doesn't add up write to us: we will look into it with Sanitas.

Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera: each island's network and why the premium changes

In Menorca the network Sanitas highlights relies on Clínica Juaneda, with centres in Ciutadella and Maó (one at each end of the island). In Ibiza the list includes Clínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario and Iniciativas Médicas de Ibiza y Formentera (IMIF), as well as the Sanitas dental clinic in the town. If you live in Formentera, the practical thing is to check with us which practices you have on the island for your specialty and to know where the Ibiza centres are. The full directory, doctor by doctor, is in the Mi Sanitas app. If you prefer, give us your postcode and we will send you the one for your area on WhatsApp.

There is a detail that surprises people who move from one island to another: the premium is not the same on all four. Sanitas's April 2026 rates price Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera separately. Two people of the same age with the same policy can pay different amounts depending on the island. Our calculator takes this into account: with your postcode it identifies the island and gives you the price for your area in a minute, without asking for your phone number. The price starts from the Sanitas rate and with us you never pay more. On full health insurance plans (with hospitalisation) we also apply the best price guaranteed.

If you are a foreigner living on the islands: language, visa and trips home

Think of a German couple retiring to southwest Mallorca or a British family settling in Ibiza. The first question is almost never the cover. It is the language: how to explain a symptom, how to read a report or how to understand a copay. At the office we look after you in eight languages: Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese. The Mi Sanitas app works in English. According to the Sanitas Residents product sheet, it also lets you filter the medical directory for doctors who speak your language.

Sanitas Residents is the insurance designed for foreigners who live in Spain. It has a very practical cover for anyone who goes home for Christmas: emergencies abroad up to 12,000 euros per person per year during the first 90 days of each trip. Before receiving care you must ask Sanitas for authorisation, except in a life-threatening emergency. We explain how to do it. If you are still applying for your visa (for example the non-lucrative residence visa), there is Sanitas Residents Visado. It has no waiting periods or copays and includes repatriation. Sanitas issues the certificate for the consulate or the immigration office (Extranjería) in under 24 hours, guaranteed (up to 48 hours if there are pre-existing conditions or you pay by bank transfer). Before you sign up we check with you that the product fits your application.

Hospital Portitxol: the hospital Sanitas is preparing in Palma for 2029

The big news of the coming years is a hospital. In its 2026 renewal letter Sanitas includes Hospital Portitxol in Palma among the three hospitals it has in the pipeline, with opening planned for 2029. According to Sanitas's press release of March 2025, it will be built on Calle Callao next to the Palacio de Congresos, and Sanitas will open it in partnership with Mapfre. It will have 89 beds (six of them ICU beds), five operating theatres, eleven emergency cubicles and 50 specialist consulting rooms. It will have two MRI scanners, a CT scanner and a day hospital for cancer treatment.

It is a project and 2029 is a long way off, so the sensible thing is to choose your insurance for what you have near home today. When it opens it will come to your policy as an improvement. What already counts today is that the Sanitas medical directory is national. With a policy that includes hospitalisation taken out on the islands, you can also be treated at Sanitas's five own hospitals in Madrid and Barcelona. One of them is Blua Valdebebas with its Instituto de Oncología Avanzada (advanced oncology institute). According to Sanitas's September 2026 information, its network has more than 59,000 professionals and 261 hospitals. Travel and accommodation are at your own expense: the general terms and conditions exclude travel expenses, except the ambulance costs the policy provides for.

Signing up from Mallorca, Menorca or Ibiza without leaving home

The office is in Majadahonda and many of our clients have never set foot in it. From the islands that is the natural thing. You work out your price with your postcode and message us on WhatsApp at +34 655 02 69 85 (every day) or call us on +34 919 93 17 90 during office hours. You can also write to us at ventas@protegesalud.com. We go through it by phone or video call whenever suits you. We prepare the Sanitas application for you and you only have to sign it and send us the DNI, NIE or passport of each insured person. With complete paperwork, sign-up usually takes under 12 hours and sometimes happens within the hour. It can take longer if there is a health declaration or the payment is pending. The policy always starts on the 1st of a month.

If you decide before February, you are in time for the Sanitas promotion: exclusive discounts for new policies and new insured persons on Más Salud, Profesionales, Más 90.000 and Premium 500.000, with a start date up to 1 February 2027. We confirm the price with the discount when we prepare your application. After you sign up we are still your office. Authorising a test at Juaneda, adding a baby, the certificate to renew your residence card or a change of plan are all handled from the island. The same people always look after you on WhatsApp and by phone. We are not the ones saying it: 430 client reviews on Google say it, with a 5.0 rating.

Common questions

Direct answers, the same we give at the office.

Does Sanitas have its own hospital in the Balearic Islands?

Not yet. Sanitas's five own hospitals are in Madrid and Barcelona. In the Balearics the own network is Centro Médico Sanitas Palma and the Sanitas dental clinics in Palma and Ibiza. Admissions take place in partner hospitals such as Clínica Juaneda, Hospital Juaneda Muro, Hospital de Llevant or the Quirónsalud clinics. Sanitas plans to open Hospital Portitxol in Palma in 2029. At a centre in the medical directory you show the card in the app and Sanitas pays the centre directly. You don't pay for the care upfront or claim back invoices.

If I travel to the mainland, does my Balearic policy work there?

Yes. The Sanitas medical directory is national: with your policy from Mallorca, Menorca or Ibiza you can see a specialist in Madrid or have a test in Valencia at any centre in the directory. The Sanitas Más Salud general terms and conditions also include urgent care by a family doctor or a nurse wherever you are in Spain, as long as Sanitas has that service under contract there. And it works the other way round: if you live on the mainland and spend the summer on the islands, your digital card is valid at the directory's centres in the Balearics.

What do I do if I have an emergency on a Sunday in August in Ibiza?

If it is serious, the usual: the nearest hospital with an emergency department or 112. If you are not sure whether it is, open the Mi Sanitas app. Blua's medical emergency service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by video, phone or chat, with more than 120 professionals according to what Sanitas tells its policyholders. In a few minutes you know whether it can wait or you need to go. In the same app you can see the nearest emergency centres in the directory. Our advice: find them in June, not on the day you need them.

I spend half the year in Mallorca and the rest outside Spain. Can I have Sanitas?

It depends on how long you spend here. The Sanitas Más Salud and Sanitas Residents general terms and conditions state that the insurance ends if the insured person moves their residence abroad or does not live in Spain for a minimum of six months a year. Sanitas may ask for an official document proving it, such as a tax residence certificate. If you meet those six months, the policy works for you. If you are going to spend more time away, tell us before signing up: another solution is needed and we would rather tell you at the start.

If I move to another island or to the mainland, what happens to my insurance?

The insurance stays with you and the medical directory is still national. The premium can change, though, because Sanitas prices by area of residence and each island has its own prices. Let us know about the change of address as soon as it is clear. We update it with Sanitas and explain how your premium changes, so you don't find out from the bill.

I'm coming from another insurer. Do I have to go through the waiting periods again?

Not necessarily. If you come from another insurer that operates in Spain, you can ask Sanitas to waive the waiting periods when you sign up. The company decides. You need to have been on the previous policy for at least a year and to move from one to the other without a break. Childbirth and bariatric surgery always keep their waiting period. We prepare the request with your previous policy and the last paid receipt so that it arrives complete. In Sanitas Más Salud a life-threatening emergency and premature birth (before 37 weeks) have no waiting period in any case. Sanitas Residents does not accept this transfer: if you are a foreign resident coming from another company, we assess with you which product suits you best.

Why sign up for Sanitas in the Balearics with an office in Majadahonda?

Because what changes is who looks after you before and after you sign. We are an exclusive Sanitas agency in Majadahonda and we work with clients all over Spain by WhatsApp, phone and video call in eight languages. We always answer you and the same people always look after you. We are not the ones saying it: 430 client reviews on Google say it, with a 5.0 rating. The price starts from the Sanitas rate and with us you never pay more. On full health insurance plans we also apply the best price guaranteed. For medical matters you don't need to come to Madrid: you go to the Palma centre or to the partner clinic on your island, and we handle the paperwork remotely.
